Unzippd is building a two-way British Sign Language research platform designed to help organisations collect, analyse and act on insights from Deaf communities.
The platform combines video-based feedback, machine-learning-assisted translation, integrations and real-time analytics, creating technical requirements across both the user-facing product and the underlying data infrastructure.
As the platform developed, Unzippd needed additional engineering capabilities across two distinct areas – full-stack product development and data architecture. Rather than approaching these requirements separately, the company needed specialists who could contribute to different layers of the same technology platform.

From Product Development to Data Engineering
Phase 1: Strengthening Product Development
The initial requirement focused on expanding Unzippd’s product development capability. Yotewo supplied a Full-Stack Engineer with experience across modern JavaScript and frontend technologies, including React, Next.js, TypeScript and Angular. The engineer joined the project to provide additional development capacity and support the continued evolution of Unzippd’s user-facing platform.
Phase 2: Expanding into Data Engineering
As the platform developed, the technical requirements expanded beyond the application layer. Yotewo supplied a Data Architect to strengthen Unzippd’s capabilities around data architecture, processing and infrastructure. The specialist brought experience across modern data engineering and cloud environments, providing expertise complementary to the existing product development capability.
Phase 3: Building Engineering Capabilities
The engagement ultimately developed from a single engineering requirement into support across multiple areas of Unzippd’s technology platform. With Full-Stack and Data Engineering expertise working across different layers of the product, Unzippd could access the specialist capabilities required as its technical needs evolved rather than building every function internally from the outset.
